24. WL Indigenous Women I look up to

 An Indigenous Woman.

A native female who inspires me is Katherine Wilson Sheppard. 

What I'm going to tell you about Katherine Wilson Sheppard, also known as Kate Sheppard, is the information about her

  

So in the beginning, Katherine Wilson Sheppard's mom, Jermima Crawford Souter, gave birth to Kate on March 10 1847.  

87 year old Katherine Sheppard was a Christian female who used to live in Liverpool located in England, of The United Kingdom when she was younger.

 As time flew by, just about 15 years later, in 1862 Sheppard’s Father had sadly and unknowingly passed away.

Ever since Kate Sheppard Dad had perished, Kate, Jermima, Kate’s brothers and their sister, had moved to New Zealand on the specific date, February 8 1869.

Since then, Katherine Sheppard strongly believed that women should take part in politics and society, other than staying home and observing the opposite gender of women protesting and voting. 

– In 1893, Katherine Wilson Sheppard  or Kate Sheppard for short, the very enterprising and brave woman, worked for the WCTU and stood up the courage to protest for women over 21 years old the right to vote. 

Yapping for a fresh generation, she stated; “We are tired of being ignored and passed over. We are drawing the line and demanding our rights..” Those words that Kate Sheppard mentioned proves how un-shameful Kate sheppard is about her humankind.

Kate has truly inspired me because the chief obstacle with which Kate had to deal/face was that; in the late 19th century, largely exposed matters like politics and voting had the high domain of men. Proper women did not do these things and mostly stayed within the home. Sheppard was encourageable enough to overcome these unfair bases.

Kate Sheppard is an easy example of bravery because she can simply prove that – whatever men can do in general, women can do it too. 

Kate had 30,000 people to sign their signatures in support for women's rights to vote. 

Then eventually, Sir David Bloyed had proudly pronounced that women are finally available to vote. All thanks to Katherine Wilson Sheppard and the community she worked for.

So then, On 21 July 1871 at the age of 24, Kate Sheppard happily got married with Walter Allen Sheppard —

 But then, Kate sadly passed away a few decades later at the age of 87 on 13 July 1934.

So.. I choose Kate really inspires me because she was a prominent leader of the campaign to give women the vote in New Zealand and NZ is the country I was born in.

Kate Sheppard deserves the honours to have her self portrait on the 10$ NZ note, because like I mentioned before, she fought for women's right to vote.
